Cutler Bay, FL (December 4, 2020)—In order to update its Floodplain Management Plan (FMP), a process required for the participation in FEMA’s Community Rating System (CRS) Program, the Town of Cutler Bay is requesting the input of its residents by completing the Floodplain Management Plan survey.

By participating in this survey, businesses, organizations, and residents will help the Town continue improving mitigation strategies, identify flooding concerns and help keep the Town’s reputable CRS Class 4 status.

The Town became a CRS Class 4 in October of 2019, an achievement that benefits Cutler Bay flood insurance policy holders by providing a 30% discount on their premiums—a yearly average savings of $243 per flood insurance policy or $1,823,789 savings Town-wide. The Town became the first municipality in Broward, Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties to reach Class 4 and only the third municipality in Florida to do so.

“Reaching the distinguished CRS Class 4 rating has been made possible through feedback from our residents as well as the collective efforts of our Town Council, Floodplain Mitigation Plan Advisory Committee, and Town staff who used that feedback to construct this plan,” stated Town Manager Rafael Casals. “We want to continue improving our flood mitigation efforts—so we are urging our residents to give us their input. Completing this survey should only take a few minutes and the valuable information gathered from it will help keep our CRS Class 4 rating and improve our Floodplain Management Plan.”

Every five years the FMP must be updated to evaluate the flooding problems and come up with mitigation strategies and projects for addressing those identified problems—whether flooding from heavy rainfall and inadequate drainage, to coastal storms and Hurricanes.

The information from the surveys will be analyzed and incorporated into the updated FMP and will help create mitigation projects for the next five years. The public is invited to participate in this online survey by visiting: http://ow.ly/S8Wo50CDijq
