January 29th 2010- Cutler Bay is Silver Certified Green City by the FGBC

Recently, the Town was awarded a Silver designation from the Florida Green Building Coalition for its efforts of becoming a green city. Achieving this designation requires local governments to meet a comprehensive list of criteria focused on improving environmental performance and Cutler Bay accomplished this in unique ways.  Cutler Bay has initiated the Green Moratorium, which makes the city the first in the southeast to establish building restrictions on commercial development. The moratorium requires new developments to participate in one of the multiple sustainability certification programs, including those of the FGBC or the USGBC.

January 27th 2010- 2010 US Census
Every ten years, a Portrait of America is taken by the United States Census Bureau. The 2010 Census will provide a clear and detailed picture of our nation, and its results will be used to determine how federal tax money is spent in states and communities.  Local governments use census data to determine what assistance is needed and where. If residents in our community go uncounted, it will directly affect the amount of federal tax dollars that our community will receive.
In February and March 2010, Census questionnaires are being mailed or delivered to every residence.

Who should fill out the census questionnaire?
The individual in whose name the housing unit is owned or rented should complete the questionnaire on behalf of every person living in the residence, including relatives and non-relatives.

For more information, go online to:  US Census

US Census 2010
The census is a count of everyone living in the United States every 10 years. The census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. Your participation in the census is required by law. It takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Federal law protects the personal information you share during the census. Census data are used to distribute Congressional seats to states, to make decisions about what community services to provide, and to distribute $300 billion in federal funds to local, state and tribal governments each year.
