Charter Revision Commission

The Town of Cutler Bay (“Town”) Town Charter Section 6.2 dictates that every sixth year the Town Council shall appoint and fund a Charter Revision Commission (“Commission”).  Additionally, the Town Charter states that the Commission shall consist of five (5) residents including one (1) from each of the three (3) residential areas. One appointment shall be made by the Mayor, Vice-Mayor, and each District Councilmember. Each District Councilmember shall appoint one (1) person from his or her Council District. No Town official shall be appointed to serve on a Charter Revision Commission. The Commission shall commence its proceedings within forty-five (45) days after appointment by the Town Council. No person shall serve as a voting member of a Charter Revision Commission more than two (2) times consecutively. The Commission shall be charged with reviewing each and every section of the Town Charter and making recommendations for change.

To comply with the ability for the Town Council to submit ballot questions in accordance with the deadline set by Miami-Dade County Elections of Friday, July 26th, 2024, for inclusion on the November 5th, 2024 General Election ballot, the resolution requires that the Charter Review Commission report their recommendations to the Town Council at the April 17th, 2024 Regular Town Council Meeting.
