“Of all the innovations, of all of the steps that this Town has taken to set itself apart from the status quo, there are none that will leave a deeper footprint from our short time in office, or our short time on this planet, than the Town’s green initiative.”

Mayor Paul Vrooman
Excerpt from the 2008 State of the Town Speech

The Town of Cutler Bay's Go Green Initiative promotes and encourages environmental responsibility in our community.

Did you know:

  • The Cutler Bay Growth Management Plan developed with citizen input recognizes the Town’s responsibility to play its part in smart growth solutions.
  • Cutler Bay Green Moratorium makes our Town the first in the South East to establish building restrictions of commercial development. The moratorium requires new developments to participate in one of multiple sustainability certification programs, including LEED (USBGC Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or the Florida Green Building Coalition.
  • The Town is striving to achieve certification as a “Green City” from the Florida Green Building Coalition.
  • The Town has established a green plan.
  • The Town has purchased two hybrid vehicles, the use of recycled paper in Town Hall is being initiated, and green cleaning supplies are being used daily.
  • The Town has begun upgrading printing equipment and using vegetable-based inks in order to reduce toxins found in the printing process.
  • The Town has been encouraging the preservation of environmentally rare and endangered land.

We are laying the groundwork for our children and future residents to continue enjoying our Town and parks, clean air and water, and all the other wonderful amenities Cutler Bay’s environment has to offer.

The Town of Cutler Bay has pulled together a number of resources to help residents and businesses learn about “going green.”
